While Catherine swept the porch, the postmaster arrived with a letter from William. Leaning her broom up against a pillar she thanked the postmaster and looked at the envelope. Her insides twisted, something felt different about this letter. Wasting no time she opened it, to find her intuition was right. She never thought William would reach out to her after what had transpired.
As her eyes read over the letter she let herself fall back into the railing. Her mind couldn't keep up with the thoughts and emotions coursing through her body. It had been a long time since she had seen let alone talked with William. Unbeknownst to him she had been living in regret ever since she left the man she left William for. She had left Williams difficulties for a man she thought was going to give her more, make things better but she was wrong. Her life was fun for a brief moment but then it came crashing down.
Catherine had been living with the regret of her decision but had believed William would never want to speak to her again. She never thought he would ever realize his faults. The proverbial ball was in her court now. William had extended an olive branch, would Catherine respond. Would she risk their hearts to a second chance. Was she getting ahead of herself? Her mind was racing, she hadn't felt like this for as long as she could remember. Taking a deep breath Catherine decided to put the letter aside and let herself calm.
After what seemed an eternity Catherine sat at the table and began to pen a response.
