William sat at his desk tears welling up in his eyes, remembering a time when he thought he was happy. His wife left him a couple years prior but his heart and mind still drifted back to a time when he was with her. At the time it was clear in his mind that she had failed him. She was the one who lied to him, cheated on him and eventually left him for another man.
As the memories rushed through his mind, dread swept over him. He had failed her too, financially, and emotionally. William was unable to give her much of anything, barely able to put food on the table. Senseless arguments were had as William was too pig headed and stubborn to compromise with the woman he had pledged his love to.
William further pondered where his life would be today if they had been able to work through their issues. Would they have found happiness, have had children. William grabbed his fountain pen and parchment, beginning to furiously scribble an apology letter. As he wrote his stomach churned, why did it take him so long to finally understand his failings in the marriage and would she care anymore about anything he has to say.
After what seemed an eternity William signed the letter. The moment of truth was upon him. After releasing the letter to the postmaster William wondered would she be receptive of his apology? Would she be able to apologize for her mistakes? Would they reconnect and build something anew or would William live the rest of his days never knowing her side of their story, filling in the blanks he had in his mind.
